I ve just installed openSUSE 11 but no internet...

hey there,

i ve installed openSUSE 11, after i had problems while installing 11.1, but the matter is after installation, i cant connect to net. morever, i use a adsl modem router. so my computer connects to my modem via ethernet card and through modem to internet. I can see the modem,i ve tried to connect modem by 192.168.., i ve seen it is connected. but i cant open any website or connect anywhere else… i dont know what to do, and also im very new to linux. somebody please help me in emergency…

It sounds like you are using a static address, have you configured the DNS
server for your network card? You can do this via YAST.

As the first reply said, make sure you’ve specified DNS servers. You should also make sure you’ve specified a default gateway.

i dont understand why i should configure dns server. and i don’t know how to do this. as i said, i can connect to my modem router. when i write its ip. and as in Windows, it should get automaticly get the dns server. i ve tried another linuxs, and i could connect easily.without configure any dns server. but opensuse,i cant… can u tell me how to configure dns? i dont use any statical ip. it is totally automaticly…

i guess i did it. i unclicked the ip6, and now rebooted. now i can connect to net. thanks in advance…
