I seem to have lost my opaque folder on my Desktop with all my links in it. All I get is the Desktop image and nothing else. When I change to Desktop Folder View, I see all my links, but not in any folder I want it like it used to be in the Desktop View, an opaque folder with all my links in it. How to recover this? Using openSUSE 12.1 and KDE. I’m sure I had this once in 11.4 and was able to recreate the folder and add back each icon, but I can’t see how to do this in 12.1, or if there is some global way to recover this.
Unlock the widgets
Open the Activities centre
Delete all but one (remember which this one is, as we will delete this too)
Create New activities > One of each sort/type
You can delete the last old one too.
This should present you with a choice of every type, including the messed up one.
Maybe I misunderstand you, but I thought widgets were what you put on the panel at the bottom of the screen, which are somehow different from Desktop Icons on the desktop. Anyway, I unlocked the widgets and looked at all the Activities. There were 4 Desktop Activities and 3 New Activities, plus Photos Activity and Search n Launch. As I clicked on each Desktop & New Activities all but one were different versions on my Desktop, of which only 1 was the one I wanted to recover to. Which happened to be a New Activity (not a Desktop Activity). But I saw nowhere how to delete the other Desktop/New Activities? I also came to the conclusion that I have now idea what an “Activity” is?
You do seem a little confused.
You seem to have found your setup anyway. I’ll leave it at that, save adding any further confusion to the mix.
KDE devs certainly know how to challenge our intellectual abilities
Well it wasn’t as easy as you made it sound But anyway I created another folder, transferred everything to that folder, deleted the old Desktop Folder, and renamed the new folder as the Desktop Folder. After I did that everything seemed to work fine except Firefox. When I exited Firefox I lost my Desktop Folder I had to then delete the Firefox icon/widget(?) in the Desktop Folder and create a new one. After I did that, everything seemed to revert to normal
Just to make things easy all things you see in KDE are widgets.
To keep it from happening again be sure you lock the widgets a right click on the desktop should show the option.
Thanks. I get it, and… yes I did.
