Ctrl-alt-backspace no longer logs me out. Instead the computer just beeps. Is due to me changing some setting or is something fouled up? Anybody know how to fix it?
C-A-B was always a bad way of logging out of a session anyway since it kills the X server. But the answer is that it now requires that you type it twice within 2 seconds to indicate that you really mean to kill the X server.
Further to ken_yap’s excellent post, I thought I would “stick in a oar” to remind users of the importance of reading the release notes. This change to the functionality of <CTRL><ALT><BACKSPACE> is written in the release notes:
openSUSE 11.0 Release Notes - Press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace Twice to Terminate the X Server
I recommend users always read the release notes before installing openSUSE.
So what is the difference between ctrl-alt-bkspc and ctrl-alt-shift-del then? Ctr-alt-shift-del is the default for logout without confirmation in the kde keyboard shortcuts.
I don’t use this to log out under general circumstances. This seems to be one of a few ways to get out of it without pushing the reset button sometimes if the system stops responding.
