I need support, or I need a drink...

Ok, I’m just gonna say it: I migrated from XP today to 11.0. I’ve got the user manuals & will, ok, read them. But it seems like everyone’s using cute little 3 letter acronyms to describe EVERYTHING, and I’m lost. Heck, even the noobie install forum was thick with abbreviations.

Is there a list that dummies down the Linux verbage for us non-tech types?

First of all, its obvious that you don’t understand the situation. You said or! The proper title would be "I need support **and **a drink! You should specify what kind of drink.

That said, forget the acronyms for the moment. Don’t try to learn too much in one day and don’t try to manipulate each little option. Default often does the trick. There is lots of help here in this forum. Start by asking the first thing that annoys or confuses you or stops you from working.

… and there is a glossary of acronyms someplace around here…

Google handles acronyms well. To understand say, DNS, just say to Google:
‘define: DNS’
and it’ll tell you what you need to know. Between Google and wikipedia, you
should be all set.

I always find Wikipedia helpful, plus the people here and opensuse and community wikis: Welcome to openSUSE.org - openSUSE and Welcome to openSUSE-Community.org - openSUSE-Community

Technically, these are TLAs. That is, there is a three letter acronym for three letter acronyms. Some people find this satisfying

I need support, or I need a drink…

I find this works the other way round; after several drinks, I need support.
