I need help with my wireless!

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop, and I installed Ubuntu, and installed “ndiswrapper” (or something like that), then ran the program, and was able to get my wireless (Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN or Dell Wireless 1470 Dual-Band WLAN miniPCI Card, not sure which) to work. Then I reformatted and got openSUSE, and could NOT get it to work. Can anyonehelp me?

You read the stickies in the Wireless Section? Lots of good info

Andy

For information of other posters: you get more help if you post a wireless question in the wireless forum.

Can you run a few diagnostics? Return the dialogue you get from these commands:

  • lspci -nn | egrep “Ethernet|Atheros|Network”
  • rpm -qa | egrep “madwifi|ndiswrapper”
  • uname -r
  • lsmod | egrep ath
  • ifconfig
  • iwconfig

And finally, look at the specs for your notebook, often on a PDF document on the cds, frequently called “handbook” or like that, and tell us what it says about the wireless “specifications”.
