I just got signed up for a SUSE account I didn't ask for

I just got an email purporting to be from suse.com, reading in part:

Thank you for requesting access to SUSE’s tool including the Partner Portal, Community Forums, Resource Library, SUSE Customer Center, Developer Community, and the SUSE Partner Software Catalog.

SUSE’s system administrator has created an new user account for you.
Click the following link to activate your SUSE account:

I requested no such thing, but the link does not appear to be a phish, either. What’s this all about? Did forget to uncheck a checkbox somewhere? Is openSUSE migrating us? Should I just ignore the email?

AS this seems to be a serious question about something spontaneous emerging out of the SUSE/openSUSE infrastructure, I moved this to Forums Comments/Suggestions.

I think this needs some more serious place then Chit-chat over a coffee or beer.

And about your question. I have no idea. I never got something like that. Let us wait and see if there are others that can provide an idea about it.
There is a transition going on of the forums to Discourse and that has lead to at least one member getting an e-mail, but that was with a complete different contents and, IIRC, also a different sender (but, do we have the sender you got it from?, or is it just suse.com?).

I don’t think this is openSUSE related at all, considering it mentions SUSE resources and came from suse.com address. I would guess it’s the SUSE Customer account thing? It would likely be best to ask somebody from SUSE IT directly though.

If the email was sent from noreply@email.suse.com than it seems legit as mentioned in SUSE FAQ and on the SUSE account page:

https://myaccount.suse.com/

Activation emails have been sent to those who have previously had an account. If you have not received the email, please reference the following page for instructions. The email was sent by noreply@email.suse.com. If you are unable to locate your email, you may click on “need help signing in” and go to the help menu and “request help.”

SUSE is completing its technical and infrastructure separation for Micro Focus. Part of the update includes moving several customer and partner tools over to SUSE supported and owned systems - therefore requiring new passwords to access the new system. Your user information has been migrated over, but for security and privacy purposes, your password was not.

I received two similar emails today.

Does anyone know what that is?
Should I do this activation or not? Is it safe?
Does it probably come from very old SuSE-Forum accounts?

Did you actually read the provided informations in the two links? There are alot of screenshots provided so you can decide yourself if it is safe…

And if you use a search engine you will find much more related informations regarding this topic:

So it has nothing to do with the openSUSE forums?
I can’t even remember why I had this account.
Maybe it’s from a time before openSUSE even existed.
I’ll probably just ignore it.

Thank you.
