I have a 'special' problem

Hello, SUSE-Community.
As you can see, I do have a ‘special’ problem! What do I mean with that?

Let me explain:
After installing openSUSE through a DVD, I wanted to install my W-LAN USB Adapter so I am able to connect to the Internet(obviously). The W-LAN Adapter is Linux compatible, but I got a little problem!
I’ve used Ubuntu before and only needed to run install.sh on there, but openSUSE refused to work with it.
After a little research I found out that openSUSE does not come with the “make” command which makes the installation difficult for me as a Linux Beginner.

Now it get’s ‘special’ …
I do own 2 computers, the first being a Desktop PC of which I installed openSUSE on and the second one being a Laptop with Windows 7 which I rarely use( why should I use Windows if I have Linux? ).
The problem is, there exists no Cable Internet/Ethernet in my House! The only connection to the Internet I can get is through the built in WLAN in the Laptop on Windows 7 or the USB W-LAN Adapter, which is impossible to install without the make command.

So, what do I do?
I can’t install any packages through YaST or the Terminal as that requires an Internet connection.
After a little reasearch I found that some people had similar problems but they all fixed it with an Ethernet connection.

I hope you can help me.

I did not read your whole story, but stopped when you told about an error message (please do post such messages and do not tell stories about them) missing make.

When you want to build software, you need devepolment packages. Please start YaST > Software > Software management and choose the Patterns view from the View menu. Then scroll down to Development and check Basic development for installation. This will give yoou things like make, C compilers, etc.

Are this “development packages” available from the install DVD?

because if not, I think you should have at least skim the OP message to the end.he specifically said that

#1. he has no access to the Internet
#2. he has no access to the Internet because he needs “make” to compile and install the driver for some screwed up USB W-Lan dongle that does not have proper binary drivers provided with it. hence his need for “make”

Well, you urged me to read until the end. And there the OP says that NetworkManager knows about the device. Thus I wonder what is needed. What happens when the OP simply tries to use it?

Sounds like it may just be firmware your after, can you check the
output from the dmesg command and see if your wireless device is
after this, if so, just install the kernel-firmware package which
should be on your install dvd.

yeah, that stomped me too.
if manager sees the device why can it not connect?
I usually have issues with computer seeing the device. once it is in the manager it means the driver is loaded(proper or not but some thing have been loaded and recognized as a valid device) it’s all about proper config of the connection after that.

Yes.

I always select “Basic Development” when installing, so I always have “make” and similar basic utilities. They install from the DVD.
