How are you trying to open it, from cli or start menu or what?
lol just double clicking on it
god it works with mozilla firefox, why not with this thing
What you downloaded? is it an iso file.
gparted-live-.4.6 and i can’t read the rest
no idea if it’s an iso
thanks for reading
have you ever considered reading the documentation?

Now that would be too easy.
I suspect that OP down loaded the iso. I don’t understand why he/she can not see the full file name though.
LOL - I’m afraid I had to chuckle too. As the other posters said - please read the documentation.
gparted is a LiveCD, which means you have to burn it to a disk and then boot from it.
Now, given the type of software that gparted is and the type of question you asked, I highly advise you to NOT burn the disk, delete the .iso you downloaded and stick to using less dangerous software such as Firefox. Gparted can damage your computer beyond recognition and hope of recovery…
well that would explain it, i didnt know you burned it then used it as a live cd
I simply wanted to delete the windows partition that was on here i no longer use, someone said to download gparted, had no idea I had to burn it to a disk
so how do I delete it, it’s not like windows, right clicking on it doesn’t bring a delete option
too easy? well go become a tech then go to someones house and just ‘explain’ to them breifly how to backup their data, wipe the drive clean, and then reinstall it
wouldn’t be too hard, really a simple process I’ve done it with windows. But one wrong key and you screw up the whole thing, and risk losing all the information. Plus, some files just don’t transfer, hope they don’t miss those.
anyway…:X
Gparted is probably the best way to go about this, but as others have pointed out, read the documentation carefully before proceeding. You might do some general reading on disk partitioning as well.
alright, but i still have to delete it and run it at boot right?
oh well
i deleted it anyways
ok thanks, next time I’ll burn it and then run that disk at boot
Which version of windows? Also, please post the results of
fdisk -l
for further help.
Depending on the version, winblows sometimes has hidden directories. As mentioned by others, be sure to backup ALL data you MAY want in the future.
fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 122.9 GB, 122942324736 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14946 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xb8e9b8e9
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5264 42275047 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 5264 14946 77778666+ f W95 Ext’d (LBA)
/dev/sda5 5264 5525 2104483+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6 5526 8136 20972826 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 8137 14946 54701293+ 83 Linux
lol winblows
lmao anyway there is my fdisk
and what data would I want to back up? I should get a backup drive that backups everything every week
but yeah I just wanted to delete the windows, and like you said winblows=hidden directories, etc. loads of **** etc.
Just go into Yast partitioner and reformat sda1. Be very very careful and read all the screens. If you don’t understand something stop and ask here. You can blow away everything with this tool. You have been warned. You can also set a mount point for the new partition while you are there Maybe something like /data. You would then have a new directory on the root called /data and it would be the new partition.
alright ill check it out
ill go to yast and then look for the partitioner
i dont suppose deleting a partition called windows would mess up a partition called linux
but if it goes wrong ill be asking questions about the forum at the library
heres wishing:|
ok i don’t want to turn this into the wine repositories post
but i go into yast and i can’t find partitioner
lol i want to do this step by step the right way, will this reboot and allow me to do this at startup? has to right, how else could i change a partition
Yast-System-Partitioner
or you could just type partition into the search box.
alright I’ll try it out now, hope I don’t crash the system
bb in a bit, I’m guessing this will take a minute
ok so you said not to continue unless I absolutely know what I’m doing
anyway here I see the windows ntfs partition, I’m going to delete it, in fact it’s taking up 40.3 gb of space
now this one isn’t in use, so I’m going to go ahead and press delete
this should be no problem, wish me luck, if I don’t reply within like 10 minutes then I screwed up my hard drive
