I can't install Grub nor access windows created partition..

I followed Dr.John’s guide here
Installation - OpenSUSE 11.0 / Win XP Dual Boot - openSUSE Forums

And i was able to get OpenSuse up and running. But unfortunately once i got to the step of installing gag, i was stuck at trying to get grub to install in the terminal.

I got this message:

k3ntegra@linux-vku5:~> sudo grub-install /dev/sdc6
root’s password:
sudo: grub-install: command not found
k3ntegra@linux-vku5:~> sudo grub-install /dev/sdc6

Also i made sure that the windows based partitions were mounted, yet i am unable to access any of them. I was able to access my fat32 USB flash drive though. Anyone know how i can get through this?

Well, once i restarted my computer, i was able to access windows based partition. But i have yet to find out how to install gag…

The question is not very clear.

Are you asking about booting Windows or you just want to access the Windows partition from Linux?

Why do you want to install gag

You can boot SUSE? yes?

Can you boot windows?

i already resolved that , i just need to know how to install grub so i can install gag, based on that installating guide by drjohn

The guide by drjohn highly recommended it, since gag is supposed to be much more reliable.

Well that is just an opinion. I don’t agree. But hey, what do I know?

Does windows and suse both boot at the moment?

yeah they both do

So leave it as it is - working from Grub.

If you have any other questions feel free…

FYI; Don’t try changing the boot order to select windows by default, users mess things up doing that. As about it first if you need to do it.

Alright thanks alot for the help caf.

I also have a 24" widescreen monitor, with a nvidia 8800gt, and unfortuantely opensuse will only operate at 4:3 (sq shape) ratio. I cant seem to find anywhere , where i can change the resolution, i tried going to application manager and typed 8800gt, and nothing came up.

Assuming you have the driver installed

Open yast - hardware - Graphics and Monitor

I tend to use LCD-- (rather than look for the screen make) then select the resolution you need, I’m not sure what that is for you.
You get chance to test it, then save.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
to restart the X desktop to see how it looks

I just set up a new PC for friend this weekend with a 22" and nvidia 9600GT - took me a few times to find the correct res. But it works fine.

You might want to post a question in the correct location on this and copy this info to it.
