I can't connect to WPA secure routers.

I can connect to unsecure routers, but not to any secure routers. NetworkManager doesn’t seem to work and neither does anything else I try. I have tried with WPA supplicant but to be honest I have not a clue what to do. I have an Atheros ar5009 card and I’m currently using the ath9k module. Lan works just fine. But my wireless doesn’t.

I would appreciate an answer. I have updated everything it seems like, but nothing I do seems to work. I have been at this for almost 3 weeks already hoping for a break and so far nothing. Please help.

Is wpa_supplicant installed? It is needed for WPA encryption.

The system does work with WPA. Whatever is wrong is with your setup.

Yes I have it installed but it still doesn’t work if you read above. Lately I have been able to connect to my router, but as soon as I disconnect I’m not able to connect again. How do I get this to work. The WPA Supplicant GUI doesn’t even seem my wireless adapter on it. The card works but it is pretty much a hit and miss with connecting.

Also I don’t have a /etc/network/interfaces file either. Apparently it was supposed to be installed, but I don’t have it.

Don’t know if it fixed yet, but others were reporting that the problem was with networkmanager and WPA. A work around is to exit networkmanager and switch to ifup.

Are you using NetworkManager or ifup to control your network?

Someone in Suse IRC told me that I don’t need to worry about that directory because it isn’t debian. I have this problem with WPA supplicant and my router. For some reason I can’t connect. I don’t know what the problem is. Here is my output for WPA supplicant.

You have two wpa_supplicant processes running, or the old one didn’t shut down
cleanly.

Which AP are you trying to reach, “turtle” or the one with the hidden ESSID.

Setting up wireless networking using ifup entails getting the correct
information in several files, which is OK if you know what you are doing. The
most important of these is /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0. You can see what
is needed by looking in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg.template.

By using NetworkManager, all of this can be done using a GUI.

Larry

I did the killall wpa_supplicant but that didn’t do anything.
Then I started it up again, but I still get the same error.

You have to manually delete the file that it tells you about.

Ok I deleted it from my computer.
I can’t connect at all now. It connect once and that is it. I uninstalled network manager and everything I do doesn’t do . I have been at this for 4 weeks almost trying to get this retarded piece of **** to work. What the hell is wrong with it? I disabled security on my router and now it won’t even connect. It connected once but then when I disconnected it went back to the same bull of not wanting to connect. I am using wicd now and same thing. It will connect once then stop. I’m using a atheros ar5009 wireless card. There aren’t any windows XP drivers for the card or else I would try and use dswrapper(which I did but failed). I have read up on almost every guide out there and the **** just doesn’t work. I google everything with ath9k not working-wicd ath9k not connecting. I have tried everything. Someone who has this card and has managed to get the ****ing thing to work help me. The dmesg and everthing is still the same. WPA supplicant is uninstalled because my router doesn’t have security enabled anymore. So don’t ask about WPA supplicant.

I hope this can help somebody.
I have XP drivers for this very difficult network card. I have uploaded them to

Free file hosting by Savefile.com

They will only be available for 30 days from this post (30 consecutive days of not being downloaded = removed from server).

I want to use linux, but this driver is preventing me from making the full switch.

In return for me finding the XP drivers, can somebody please tell me how to use NDISWRAPPER to get them working please?
I’m not afraid of the command-line, but not very good with it.
I hope we can nail this card.

Tere are several guides on how to use ndiswrapper out there, here is but a few:-

I haven’t been a SUSE user for a while, but it has many
excellences.

I’m no expert, but I’ll bet you have run afoul of your
permissions. That is really a likely problem that can
arise with multiple installs and removes.

Install wicd-curses. ifconfig, etc., are root-user
interfaces, but wicd-curses is a user interface.
Installing wicd-curses should straighten out the
permissions problems. It did for me. In a terminal,
type

$ wicd-curses

not as root. Good luck. It’s easy, and it can’t hurt.

If it works, get back to me: dra@openguitar.com. Put
“poisonal” in the subject field please.
