I have a PC with an Intel Core 9 Ultra 285k CPU, Asus Z890 motherboard, 128 GB DDR5 RAM and two NVidia ADA RTX 4000 GPUs. For some reason it seems something in my hardware is not compatible.
I tried to install openSUSE Tumbleweed but this hangs when starting the GUI installer with a black screen and I would prefer Leap anyway.
I was able to install openSUSE Leap 15.6 but after the first reboot (or any other subsequent reboot) almost nothing works. I was able to connect to the WiFi but when trying to perform an update I get a message
Kernel [ C0] bug workqueue lockup pool cpu=X
This seems to indicate a problem with my CPU, which worked flawlessly in Windows.
It seems I need an updated kernel. How can I get an openSUSE Leap version with a newer kernel. The kernel installed is kernel is 6.4.0-150600.21-default
@AltitudeDashboard Hi, since the CPU has an Intel iGPU, boot with nomodeset in the installer grub options. I would suggest Leap 16 RC as this has a later kernel…
When installing the kernel from kernel:stable:backports, no kmp shipped by the Leap OSS or Update(s) Repo will work, because they are build for kernel 6.4. Also kmps from Packman Repo or Nvidia Repo.
So only installing Nvidia driver the hard way will work.
Thank you very much! Installing Leap 16 RC and disabling the CPU integrated GPU really helped. But I found the interface a bit buggy, perhaps because it is only a RC.
Meanwhile I tried Arch Linux and Hyprland and I’m hooked, I am navigating dangerous waters but it´s more fun. I might try again openSUSE some time later. But I am back on the Linux scene after a few years and it seems a lot has changes and Arch Linux might be the future.
Thanks anyway for your support
I encountered a similar issue.
Since I am on TW, do tell me if I should create a separate thread or I can continue here.
I did a zypper dup yesterday and afterwards, for every single boot everything was very laggy and eventually froze up. I did manage to take the attached picture.
Afterwards I did a snapper rollback so now I am fine but I wonder how long I should wait till I try a dup again.
