I had to do a crash course on the cli today. Thankfully I was able to retreive my documents and use OpenOffice in Winders. I am thankful I learned a little of DOS before it left otherwise I would have been totally screwed.
The problem is self inflicted. I was trying to go with a different plasma theme desktop look and well to put it bluntly I no longer get to the GUI of 11.2 I have the cli.
I need to find the error message that I received about some orphan files for the GUI. I also need to find out if it is possible to get the GUI desktop enviroment back.
I logged in as a user did the su (learned that today). I can find a few things here and there but I am confused. I have read that I can do a restore or I can do a repair of packages that are damaged, but sadly I am reading a red hat 6.1 book. I could not even mount the floppy must be sumpin I typed in wrong (get yer minds outa the gutter on the mounting of the floppy)
If you really don’t have a graphical login screen at all, rather than trying to log in and having it fail, then it’s a different problem, also most likely fixable; unless your experiments in CLI have really done some damage.
If you know what sort of things you altered it probably will help to assess best course of action from here
I read somewhere I could actually find the error messages that I had received before I rebooted the system. I know I did not change anything within the system itself with the cli. I just backed up three open office files after I figured out how to find the durn things linux is quite literal it has to be Documents not documents
