I can not login in the openSUSE 13.1

Hello!!

I can not login in the openSUSE 13.1 KDE - 64bit.
After login, the system returns to the login screen again.

How can I solve this problem?

Thank you very much!!

Did it ever work, or is this a new install?

If it is not new, what did you do? Updates, changes?

It is not new and I updated the sistem.

Can you login on a textconsole ( switch with CTRL-ALT-F1) ?
If that works, have look on the xorg logfiles.

Not being able to get to the Desktop may indicate a full drive. Are you running BTRFS file system?

Xorg seems to start fine, otherwise there would not be a login screen…
So there probably won’t be anything in the xorg logfiles.

So better look into /var/log/kdm.log and ~/.xsession-errors-:0.

I would suggest to try recovery mode (advanced options in the boot menu).
KDE crashing on startup might indeed be caused by a graphics driver problem.
If recovery mode works, please check whether your graphics driver is working on a normal boot, the xorg log should show that.
In that case it would be interesting which graphics card you use, and whether you installed a proprietary driver.

Other suggestions:
Try to login as a newly created user.

Check that your hard disk is not full.

Try to login to a different session like IceWM. Does that work?

Please, talk more…

What did you update, for instance?

I’m not there, at your seat. You have to explain things.

Automatically was intalled XBMC and another thing, I do not remember.

There was a recent kernel update. Did you do it?
What video hardware do you have? Proprietary drivers, perhaps?

Can you login in text mode (ctrl-alt-f1)? Then can you run “df -h”? Then
do you see any partition at 100% use, or near? If so, which?

If not, are you using btrfs? In that case, view this thread:

I’m logged in IceWM, It works fine!!
Now I try to login as a newly created user.

Nothing that would cause a crash.

I’m logged in IceWM, It works fine!!

Ok. Then please try to run kde inside of IceWM in an xterm.

startkde

Does KDE start? If not, please post the last lines from the xterm.

KDE crashes again. I could not read the errors … is very fast.
The system returned to the login screen.

I read something about “hplip” and it was written in red.

You were returned to the login screen when you ran “startkde” inside IceWM?

Then that’s definitely a graphics driver issue. Did you try recovery mode yet?
Please post /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Btw, you should find the same messages in ~/.xsession-errors-:0 as I already mentioned. But that file is recreated on login, so rename it first before you login to a different session after KDE crashes.

I read something about “hplip” and it was written in red.

Probably irrelevant. hplip should not be able to crash the whole X session.

Yes!!

Did you try recovery mode yet?

I can not do that.

Please post /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

What does that mean?
Do you not know how to do it?
Or does it not work?

Anyway, your problem is clear now, your nvidia installation is broken:

Apparently you lack nvidia’s libglx:

4861.378] (II) LoadModule: “glx”
4861.378] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
4861.378] (II) Module glx: vendor=“X.Org Foundation”
4861.378] compiled for 1.14.3.901, module version = 1.0.0
4861.378] ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 7.0
4861.378] (==) AIGLX enabled
4861.378] Loading extension GLX

How did you install the driver?
If you downloaded the .run installer from nvidia, you have to reinstall it after every update to the kernel, Xorg, and Mesa.
This definitely looks like nvidia’s libglx has been overwritten with the original Xorg implementation by an update to xorg-x11-server (which the .run installer overwrites in the first place).

If you installed via the packages from the repo, check that you have nvidia-glG03 installed. If in doubt, post the output of:

rpm -qa | grep nvidia

I do not see the Recovery option.

If you installed via the packages from the repo, check that you have nvidia-glG03 installed.

I install “nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop” from the repo.

rpm -qa | grep nvidia
