I can install Suse 11 on my XPS 420

Hi all,

I tried to install Suse on a Dell XPS 420.

Iso: openSUSE-11.0-DVD-x86_64.iso

I go through all the installation proces without issues (Partittioning, packet selection, etc) when it starts to install first packet ( after formatting and intall the images) I got the following error:

RPM:
error: %preun(rsync-etc…) scriptlet failed with status 255.

If I retry same error, if I ignore, next packet will have same error.

I run the diagnostics after the error and it fails on the third line:

/mnt/bin/ls … failed.

These are the techincal specs:

CPU Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.40Ghz
RAM 4.00 GB
HDD HITACHI HDP7250 SATA
NVidia GForce 8800
DVD/RW
etc

Any ideas why?

Make sure the MD5 sum of the ISO is correct. Also check the media during installation. It surely sounds like a damaged media to me.

Also try burning the image at 8x (or slower) – any faster and you can have buffer overflows due to the lzma compression now utilized (=30% more on the DVD).
