Hypervisor: libvirtd not running

i’m having some issues trying to get the oSUSE 11.3 x64 hypervisor working, these are the errors im getting when i’ve opened the virtual machine manager, and clicked on one of the 2 options.

please verify that ‘libvirtd’ daemon has been started:

and verify that:

  • a Xen host kernal was booted
  • the Xen Service has been started

i’ve never played with the Xen hypervisor before, so i’m not sure where to go, what to check, what to expect or anything else.
i’m guessing i need to check the ‘libvirt(d)’ service out, however being a complete windows user  i havent much clues as where to start.

according to zypper, libvirt is installed and is the latest version. a reboot into the Xen-enabled kernel has also been done - so i’m guessing everything should be working fine.

help please!

Hi, this should work. Run these commands as root (by first doing su - )

First allow the daemon to start on boot:

chkconfig libvirtd on

Then start the daemon:

rclibvirtd start

Does that fix it?

nail on the head - thanks for that!

No Problem

Wher are you doing this And wher are it located
The chkconfig is no comand ???

Regards
Tommy

This is a very old message thread. If you have a problem Tommy, it might be best to start your own thread in the correct forum here: Virtualization

The program /sbin/chkconfig is still there, but we use systemd and not SystemV these days. The program rclibvirtd is in the package called libvert. You would install this to use xen or kvm. What exactly are you trying to do? You may start a new message thread in the Virtualization forum where you can explain yourself more completely if you wish.

Thank You,
