Hybrid Graphics - AMD + Intel

Hi All,

I have a HP DV4 - 3145tx laptop with switchable graphics consisting of AMD Radeon HD6750M and Intel HD3000. I am using the open source radeon driver. How can I know which card is in use at the moment? Also, how can I switch between the cards?

Switching will probably be a matter of if you can turn off the Intel in the BIOS

glxinfo | grep render

Normally the system runs on the intel chip on those hybrid things.

If you install the proprietary fglrx driver, this will switch automatically between the cards. You should be able to configure which card to use for which program in the Catalyst Control Center AFAIK.

For how to switch with the opensource drivers, maybe one of those links will help:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/hybrid_graphics#ATI_Dynamic_Switchable_Graphics

And it might be possible to switch on a “hardware” level in the BIOS settings.

I don’t have BIOS setting for switching. However it seems the open source radeon driver now dynamically switches between the cards. So things should be good.

From Arch Wiki, to find out which card is in use ATM:

cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
