Though of course the UNIX copyrights have no relation to Linux.

I can’t remember where I read it, but IIRC those patents were mostly for something called Platespin.

It would almost certainly be speculation, since nothing official has been
said and if it were leaked, the leaker could go to jail.
The nature of this type of acquisition (private company buying a public
company) is that everything that’s announced must be approved by the
SEC first. That’s my understanding.

Subject matter already posted in an ongoing thread in this same sub-fora, approx six hours earlier. How many threads of speculation do we need?
@Consused is right. Please new readers, join one of the other ongoing threads.
Sorry I didn’t know there was another thread that dealt specifically with this issue. I looked first but didn’t find it.
Sorry, had assumed since it was announced by Novell’s Ceo that it was official.
~I’m~ not a new reader. I’ve been around for 5 years almost. I just don’t post that much and I had to move to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS for a while so I’ve been gone entirely.
My motherboard died and 11.0 reached end of life while it was being repaired. Naturally I bought another one but it was defective so I asked a tech friend to repair my old one. I’m on an old ati card and 11.1 3d doesn’t work properly for me with fglrx and we all know anything after that doesn’t work at all. The system isn’t worth upgrading.
I just saw the article and wanted everybody to know.
Hope to see openSUSE strong and healthy when I can get a new pc someday and come back. I haven’t seen all that many distros but I definitely haven’t seen another like this one.
Later.
Well I can’t find it, would like to read it, only one I can find is 9 months or so ago. Anyone got a link to the new contemporary thread?
There is post#80 in this rather old thread:
Novell to be sold to Attachmate
… I think though, that many of the concerns have been addressed for the moment, and its business as usual until next spring.
Thanks oldcpu, I had read that some days ago but didn’t relate it to the Unix patents because I skipped that (old) stuff, focusing on Attachmate – concentration span – sigh.
