while installing linux on my system some versions say there is a problem with the APIC and freez
some linuxes have problems with io on the dvd and continualy produce errors in the io driver and freez
some work but have problems reading the dvds or cds
a few install fine
examples of this are SUSE linux enterprise desktop 10 it has read errors on my brand new dvd this includes while in windows
debian works but wont install
CentOS 5 one of the best, freezes
other versions have verios problems with my computer mostly du to installer failure to read the disks with ether dvd drive
or to freeze or to have IO error messages comeing up continualy every 12 or so seconds
it seems the drive disengages on windows or under linux and then the bay wont open if the button is pressed this is with ether of the dvd drives i have had installed
If I like to install a certain Linux distro , my starting point is going through the hardware database of that distro to find out if all my hardware is supported in the that particular version.
And than my next step is trying a Live CD if possible.
So when deciding to install I am pretty sure that all my hardware
is supported.
Yes a lot of research first , but the chances that did work out becomes minor
dobby9
like i sayed centos debian astrolinux wouldent work on my imedia 8812 seems to be a bad setup of the acpi and sometimes it frustrates me
PCLinuxOS boot CD worked great thought and the active runs on DVD ones seemed to work mostly
and as it terns out OpenSUSE 11 64bit installed after 5 attempts with it failing du to errors ether on the CD or Harddisk errors that are random rather than static
windows seemed to run faster if i used the non acpi driver for my main bord
so i sympathies with you
is your system over clocked ?
is AMD cooling enabled on the bios ?
over clocking can cause instability
try rearanging your hardware io ports in bios so none overlap
