hplip-2.8.10.run install?

I have downloaded the file for my HP-C4580 All-In-One Printer. It is compatible with Open SUSE.It is on my desktop.
File location properties show the path is /home/Beau/Desktop.
In terminal I’ve tried a lot of combinations but can’t figure out how to install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Beau

Your best bet to install your new hp printer is to use YAST (Hardware/Printer section).

If you find you have problems with this configuration (ie it doesn’t work) try uninstalling hpijs-Standalone and install hplip & hplip-hpijs (using YAST software management) then everything should be ok:)

I second that advice of installing hplip via YAST.

The open source hpijs-Standalone driver works very poorly for my printer (paper feeds from the wrong tray) but the hplip seems to work much better.

Folks,

there’s also a Packman version which is slightly newer than the version included with Opensuse.

Thanks for you help folks but I’m dense at this. I’m new so need some basic help. I tried Yast. My Photosmart C4580 was detected but it wouldn’t work. It was detected jsu tclickin gon Printers. I uninstalled the DVD HPLIP files in add/remove software. According to the Web site
HP Linux Imaging and Printing
I think I need to install ‘HPLIP-2.8.10.run’ that I downloaded to my desktop by using terminal. I’m sure it is the latest version.

The Automatic Installer is known to work on the following Linux Distributions:
* SUSE Linux (10, 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 11.0)

To use the Automatic Installer, follow these steps:

 1. Download the file to a convenient location (e.g., home directory or desktop, etc).
 2. Open a console/terminal and cd to the location where the installer was downloaded. (e.g., cd ~/Desktop)
 3. Type in and run this command: 'sh 2.8.10.run' < dynamic link needed>

I’ve tried numerous times but I can’t even get into the Desktop directory using combinations of cd ~/Desktop, CD ~Beau/Desktop, etc…

I would like to know the exact terminal input please. My computer name is Beau.

Thanks,
Beau

You’re making it much more difficult than it needs to be.

Just go into YAST / Software Management and in the “search” box type hplip, and then click “install” (or whatever it says there).

YAST will either download the latest version from the internet, or it can also use the version that’s on your install disc.

YAST might tell you it needs to uninstall the the other HP printing program, so go ahead and agree to that.

Then run YAST / Hardware / Printer again and it should work, though you may want to delete the previous set up first.

Thanks. Works perfectly. It even installed the HP Toolbox so I can see ink levels, etc…
Photosmart-C4500-series
hpijs, hpijs 2.8.10.33 (that’s the latest I’m sure)

I learned a few things.
