hpet1: Death at night

Hi all,

I use SUSE for a home-brewed router. It happens each 2-3 nights that the router goes belly up. I have to reboot it from the power button, as it doesn’t respond, locally or to remote administration. In the messages log, all crashes are preceded by long periods (hours) of quietness. Last lines before death are:

What is hpet1? What log should I activate to get more detail into this?

LE. I suspect the wireless card. I use an Atheros 5001+ in a Netgear WPN 311. Drivers are those that come with the OS. Network is Ad-hoc, and at least one another computer is up and connected to the network at the time of these crashes.

i didn’t follow it very far, but a quick google leads me to believe it
has something to do with wireless

has it always done this or did it just start with the last kernel
upgrade (this week?), or maybe the one about a month or two ago??

maybe you need to log a bug AND fall back to an older kernel…

HOWEVER, maybe someone who KNOWS something about this will come along
with more help, so stay tuned. . . . .

Another suspect I found is VMWare.
