hp scanner only works as root

Hello guys.
This didn’t happen in original SLED10.

I have reformatted my ‘/’ partition and erased original SLED for SLED10sp2. Now my scanner (hp scanjet 2300c) is not detected by xsane as a user (although it shows as connected to the usb port and detected correctly, as listed in yast’s hardware info).

When i go to root’s workspace, it scans correctly.
Also, when i click the hp-toolbox icon in the programs menu, nothing
occurs.

¿What happened? ¿how can i correct this behavior?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi
This is the openSUSE forum, you should look at posting in
forums.novell.com. :slight_smile:

Did you run hp-setup as root?

Is your user part of the scanner group?

I agree this reply is a month after the original, but if 69_rs_ss is out there in cyberspace, (I note as administrator) could you please detail how one adds a user to the scanner group;

I note that when I look in YaST in the various groups available, that no scanner group is available;
