HP is probably one of the best supported
Take a look at this list, though it’s by no means complete
HCL:Printers - openSUSE

There are various scanner applications. I use xsane, which I find very
straightforward. KDE and Gnome probably have their own programs. Try
using YaST software management and search for ‘scanner’ to see what
there is.

Have you read this, BTW?
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners

i have skanlite scanner software installed. it copied a letter i had works

as with the article "http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners," does that mean i didnt have to run scanner setup in yast? it would have worked if i just ran skanlite, so next time i do a clean install i can avoid scanner configuration in yast?

should i delete scanner scanner in the scanner configuration list?

thanks

You will usually find such devices get picked up automatically during install of openSUSE. Though, strangely, in 12.1 my HP printer wasn’t picked up, where in 11.3 and 11.4 it had been.
But I configure mine via CUPS web interface

should i delete scanner scanner in the scanner configuration list?
Why?

why, if its automatically configured already in sane then i dont need it in scanner configuration and can delete it.

but im guessing with the why ? i dont need to…

Cups interface http://localhost:631 is that easier or do you just write code to get things installed?

thanks

i’ve been playing around with skanlite, the bascs tab has options to choose from but when i click on scanner specific options tab, its all greyed out no options to choose from?
