HP Printer

I need to purchase a new HP Printer 1108. I was using HP LaserJet 1020 for which i was using foomatic drivers. Can you please tell me if the drivers are avialable for the same as i cant see it in my drivers database? I am currently using Opensuse 11

Thanks in Advance

Yes, this model is supported

HP Linux Imaging and Printing

Note: This printer REQUIRES a downloadable driver plug-in. Use hp-setup to install the printer, and to download and install the plug-in. In general, required driver plugins are required for printing support. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release.

But openSUSE 12.1 has full support for installing it. So simply install hplip through YaST or zypper and everything will be done automatically.

I would not recommend buying such a printer. Find a printer that works
directly from cups without any type of requirement to download anything
from anywhere else but from the oss/non-oss repos.

Ie, full open-source support.

That is not partivulary helpfull to us. There is 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3 (not supported anymore) and 11.4.
Better be as specific as possible in all your posts about computer technics.

I use two HP networked printers and they work just fine with the hplip application package that comes installed with openSUSE. You did not specify the exact version of openSUSE which gives a problem for the exact instructions to install it. You use the application called hp-setup. To use, just run the following command:

For KDE do: Alt-F2: kdesu hp-setup <OR> for Gnome do: Alt-F2: gnomesu hp-setup

For network setups, you may need to enter its IP address manually. Cups still works fine and to launch its a Web interface with the address: http://localhost:631/ and to manage your printers with the HP functions, use the program hp-toolbox, which then loads automatically for you after its first used and with hp printers already installed.

Thank You,
