HP Pavilion tx2000 & tx2500z with HD Audio Azalia

Want it to work for you?

Download drivers from Realtek website:

ftp://66.104.77.130/pc/audio/LinuxPkg_5.07.tar.bz2

-unpack it
-cd to the unpacked folder “realtek-linux-audiopack-5.07”
-open console & type: “sudo ./install”
-wait a while
-type “sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base”
-alsa-base might not exists but it doesn’t matter, vi will create one then
-press “[INSERT]” button & type following:

options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba

-press “[ESC]” then type “:wq”
-ur back in the console, type “sudo reboot”

Enjoy!

Good afternoon, and I am sorry to post this message, but I have read the troubleshooting guide for sound, and a few other messages, and I am still not able to get sound working on the laptop.

I have no sound at all at the moment.

I have an HP Pavilion tx2500 Laptop.

These are the messages that I got out after entering a few commands according to another post that I have read.

Any comments will be very welcome. Thank you very much in advanced.

Did you restart after setting model=hp ? I’ve read that has worked for many tx2000 users. Did you check your mixer thoroughly?

Can you provide the some addition information to ensure this is not a mixer problem. ie To provide more information, with your PC connected to the internet copy and paste the following into a gnome-terminal or konsole:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh

When the script completes it will pass you a URL. Please post that URL here.

Thank very much for your reply.

In the end I have done this:

FIRST
I have updated ALSA according to one post.
After rebooting I tried to get the sound, but it didn’t work.

rpm -qa | grep alsa
alsa-devel-1.0.18.git20081205-1.1
alsa-utils-1.0.18.git20081122-1.5

alsa-plugins-1.0.16-57.1

alsa-1.0.18.git20081205-1.1

SECOND.
I have edited the file sound, and instead of using model=hp I wrote model=toshiba.

The file sound looks like this now:

cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba

5Dex.e07Fum5Ne47:SBx00 Azalia

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

After doing this, I got the sound on the laptop.

Thank you again.

Glad to read its working … with out the script output, there is no much I can add.

I do note that the model option “toshiba” is typically used in an ALC267/268, or an ALC861VD/660 or an AD1981. The model option “hp” is also used in an ALC861VD/660 or an AD1981. I don’t know which of these hardware audio codecs your PC uses (that script would provide that info).

Anyway, you have it working, and thats most important! Congratulations and thankyou for sharing your solution.

Sorry,

Here it goes,

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=21f34af8ada17c67272b289a35b73c865d4443a2

Again congratulations for getting your sound to work.

OK, based on that I can see your PC has an ALC268. From the ALSA-Configuration.txt file, the following options are available for an ALC268 (of which one is toshiba):

	ALC267/268
	  quanta-il1	Quanta IL1 mini-notebook
	  3stack	3-stack model
	  toshiba	Toshiba A205
	  acer Acer laptops
	  acer-dmic	Acer laptops with digital-mic
	  acer-aspire	Acer Aspire One
dell Dell OEM laptops (Vostro 1200)
	  zepto Zepto laptops
test for testing/debugging purpose, almost all controls can
adjusted. Appearing only when compiled with
			$CONFIG_SND_DEBUG=y
	  auto auto-config reading BIOS (default)

Without having the script information, and information on what rpms one has installed, it is very difficult to give an accurate recommendation.

I’m happy to see you managed to sort this and pick the correct “model” to apply for your hardware. Well done.

I’m running Suse 11.2 on an HP tx2500 and had no audio initially. It was easy to fix though:

  1. Open YaST.
  2. In the Hardware section, select SOUND.
  3. Select Azalia Card Model.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Enter toshiba, then click OK.
  6. Click Next.

Reboot. It worked for me.

Pretty easy. Now if I could get touchscreen working. Pen works great tho.

I know this is old, but upgrade to 11.3. I have a Tx2510us and with 11.3 tablet and touchscreen worked instantly. sound too as soon as I switched the master channel to PCM.
