hp pavilion dv5000

how can i update bios in this nice laptop >(
i do not own any windows.
i do not own ‘floppy drive’<–or what ever it is
hp only tries to --force those windows binaries to me and i dont know what to do with them.

i read somewhere that stupid hp.exex wants to run from C: drive formatted with FAT or something and it even check some rescue partitions which i do not have anywhere(offcourse)

can it be done with somekind of bootcd or do i haveto use some weird way to get 'loan’windows to do that 'must_be_done’update.

anyone ever tried/got this working…

Are any of those utilties DOS based? (ie can update from DOS) or do you you need MS-Windows?

I’ve never tried to burn the BIOS without a floppy or without a valid C: partition myself …

But you could try to fool the hp.exex … I wrote a wiki some time ago here: Boot DOS without Floppy - openSUSE

But note, … While I tested the ability to boot to that and run DOS, I’ve never actually tried burning a BIOS with this method, so no guarantees.

I forgot to say:

  1. WELCOME to our forum!!

  2. And please, a favour … Next time, in the Title, could you be more descriptive? Maybe say something like: "How to update BIOS w/out floppy on HP DV5000 ? " Many thanks.
