HP ML350 USB DAT TAPE trouble

I installed OpenSuse 11.1 on a HP ML350G5, the system runs fine, until I want to use the external USB DAT Tape drive.
I use bacula. And when this starts, in the log file I get ATA errors, which is strange, there are SAS disks, a dvd player and an extra SATA disk.

Do I need to install HP drivers? If that’s it how can I do that?

With kind regards,

Carlos Colson

Hi,

I have the same messages with a HP 350G5and opensuse 11.1.
But I cannot relate it to any process / I don’t have USB devices but I found these messages after a locking of my keyboard:
mouse was still working but on the keyboard all keys were locked: character, functions key including numlock ==> needed a hard reset
Here one of the messages
Feb 6 16:03:35 hpprol kernel: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen

Feb 6 16:03:35 hpprol kernel: ata1: EH complete

I suspect the DVD driver or the sound card. Sometime the problem occurs many time per day , sometime only one time/week
I found these errors embedded in the error messages
Feb 6 16:03:16 hpprol kernel: ALSA sound/core/pcm_native.c:1508: playback drain error (DMA or IRQ trouble?)

or
Feb 5 21:07:34 hpprol kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: Get event status notification 4a 01 00 00 10 00 00 00 08 00

Hello Philippe,

Your suggestion makes sense, when I have this problem I also have trouble accessing the dvd player. I’m not sure if they are related but I did notice that when these errors come up, the backup results in input output errors. I have been looking for this problem a few weeks, added another USB card etc.
Maybe it’s the dvd player problem tying up resources.

Let’s hope someone else has an answer.

wkr,

Carlos
