HP mini vertical scroll

I’ve got an HP mini and I want to get the vertical scroll working for the touchpad. I’ve tried a few things I saw in the forums, but if I change to the synaptics driver in xorg.conf the touchpad stops working altogether. It works in Ubuntu, but there’s no information in the xorg.conf. How can I get it working in OpenSuse?

Can you post the relevant portion from the xorg.conf file here?

Section “InputDevice”
Driver “mouse”
Identifier “Mouse[1]”
Option “Buttons” “5”
Option “Device” “/dev/input/mice”
Option “Name” “SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad”
Option “Protocol” “explorerps/2”
Option “Vendor” “Sysp”
Option “SHMConfig” “on”
Option “VertScrollDelta” “20”
Option “RightEdge” “800”
Option “ZAxisMapping” “4 5”
EndSection

How does Ubuntu handle the configuration now that it’s not done in xorg.conf? All the information I found in the forums changed the mouse driver to synaptics, but when I do that the touchpad no longer works.

With “mouse” driver, you wont get touchpad funtionalities.
You have to use “synaptics” driver. Try the following configuration which allows you to do 2-finger scrolling and 3-finger right clicking.

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver "synaptics"
  Identifier "Mouse[1]"
  Option "Buttons" "12"
  Option "ClickFinger2" "3"
  Option "ClickFinger3" "2"
  Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
  Option "MaxTapMove" "0"
  Option "MaxTapTime" "180"
  Option "Name" "Touchpad"
  Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
  Option "SHMConfig" "on"
  Option "Vendor" "Synaptics"
  Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "1"
EndSection

Back up the existing file before making changes.

I really don’t think you read my post… please read it again.

changed the mouse driver to synaptics, but when I do that the touchpad no longer works.

maybe i was unclear. i mean when i do that the touchpad no longer moves the pointer on the screen.

Oh OK. What is the version of the synaptics driver you installed?

After you asked which version, I realized it may not be installed. I built the image from Suse Studio, and didn’t think to add the synaptics driver. Anyway it’s working now. Thanks.

Good to hear that it is working now.
