hp lcd monitor fickers

Opensuse 11, gnome desktop. My hp lcd monitor gets horizontal lines flickering on and off in the display lately.
it’s set at 1440 x 900 at 60hz.
Any ideas?

First keep a backup of the /etc/x11/xorg.conf file.
Then edit the /etc/xorg.conf file so that the “section monitor” has the right values for your HorizSync and VertRefresh. The part ofthe file should look like

Section “Monitor”
Identifier “FLATRON 995F”
Option “DPMS”
HorizSync 30-96
VertRefresh 50-160
EndSection

What u basiclly have to add is the HorizSync and VertRfresh lines.Dont worry abou the other lines.
As a side note ive seen people having same problems with u, with ATI cards and compiz enabled. If u have and ATI card.disable all desktop effects and see if u still have the problem

I checked under display properties in yast.
I can change the sync frequencies in there manually. Now they are set at;
Horizontal-30-83khz
Vertical-50-76 hz
My max specs from the hp website are 75hz max vertical and 83khz max horizontal

Display properties at yast are set depending on the values that xorg.conf has.If xorg.conf has wrong values then yast will set wrong values
