HP Envy Fingerprint Reader - Tumbleweed

Trying to get Fingerprint Reader working on my new HP Envy. I see that to get started there is a Yast Module I need installed from here:
https://software.opensuse.org/package/yast2-fingerprint-reader
But when I try to 1-Click Install it seems that source link is dead. Any ideas? Is this no longer supported?
If you need an system specific info I’d be happy to provide it, just didn’t seem relevant.

You do not explian where you got that information from, thus we have to guess a lot.

But when I use https://software.opensuse.org/search to search for “fingerprint”, there is a package yast2-fingerprint-reader, but when I go there the links are broken indeed.

It seems that though there is a Tumblweed version mentioned, there is no 13.2 one. Which makes me think that it is not only not build for 13.2, but also not for todays Tumbleweed.

Can’t find any pointer to a maintainer :frowning:

Hi
Since it’s not re-written in ruby for the new yast, not sure it will ever re-appear…

I imagine you will need to try enabling manually… (fprintd)

What sensor device is it (Validity Sensors)?

lsusb

I have a HP ProBook 455 G1 with a Validity device [138a:003f] but running Leap and have not worried about the reader.

lsusb shows indeed Validity Sensor.

Never had one of these devices on a laptop before and initially setup looked simple enough, still would like to tinker it out. Shame the Yast control has been abandoned.

Have read of this how to (should still be applicable to TW):

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/506187-Fingerprint-Reader-and-openSUSE-13-2-SOLVED

FYI I tried that with TW on a seasoned HP6510 with an Autentech reader: everything installed but in the end the reader didn’t work.
I gave up after tinkering a bit, since it was just out of curiosity.
I recall that laptop working in the past (maybe with OS 11.4?), when the Yast module was in charge…

Hi
For my one I need to patch fprintd etc, when I get some extra time
might have a play;
