HP DV9000 (Nvidia 8400M GS) Cannot Change Resolution

Hi,

My laptop is stuck at 1680x1050, which is usually fine. However, I need it to be 1024x768 to play a game.

I have tried using Sax2 to change the resolution, but they are never saved.

Thanks for the reply, but when I did that, all I got was a black screen.

If its easier:

Try this:
Reboot. At the boot screen, pause the timer by moving the down arrow. Now move back to the default boot, now press and hold backspace (this should clear all of any text in the boot line lower down)
Now just press the number : 3
and hit enter

At the login type:
username
password

now do
su
root password

now

sax2 -r

I tried that, and the xserver started, and a box popped up telling me that changes were made to the resolution, I could either Change, OK, or Cancel. I hit ok and I went straight back to the CLI. I tried this twice, and I am appreciating the help.

Hang on.
Why is it necessary to change the whole of X, just for one application anyway. It will be a royal pain the rear to have X smaller than the screen.

You should be able to configure the app to run in a set window.

Eh, I’ve been trying to get a game running under Cedega (Rome: TW- Barbarian Invasion), and there is a screen error that people have said is fixed if you run it in 1024x768. Running the game in a desktop (windows) does not resize it like one would think. So, I thought if I change my screen resolution, problem solved. Theoretically, it should have been a simple operation.

I managed to fix the problem:

I upgraded Cedega and the problem about running in a window was fixed.
