HP DV6000 WIFI Problem

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with my WIFI card on my HP DV6000 since the last kernel update : Linux linux-elin 2.6.27.23-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-05-26 17:02:05 -0400 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Before this update my wifi card works perfectly (after installing the driver deliver with the distro) but since the update the wifi card is not view even if i use lspci -vnn … So it’s not a driver problem but seems a kernel bug, no ?

Someone have an idea.

Thanks

If the hardware does not show up in the lspci output, it is a hardware
problem. The only software that might affect it is the BIOS as it
could be disabling the interface.

If i make a new install of opensuse 11.1 the wifi card correctly appears. And after the kernel update it automatically disapear… Strange …

What device do you have? Most likely, you are using an out-of-kernel
driver and you did not get the right one for the new kernel.

Any driver that is not built into the kernel needs to be updated
whenever the kernel changes.

The driver procedure is deliver with the distro : /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

That is only to get the firmware, not the driver. You would need to
rerun that script after a new installation that reformatted the
partition containing /lib; however, a simple kernel upgrade will not
touch that directory.

A kernel upgrade should not affect any device that uses b43, but it
will if you use the Broadcom-wl driver. That is why I asked what
device is involved.

I have same laptop but my problem is that sound driver is not working. I had download new driver form HP website but that is also not working. Your guide to finding work at home including home business ideas.

Check the command ‘/sbin/lspci -nnv’. Dees it have any information
about your wireless? If not, you have hardware problems.
