HP dv5 1210ed internal mic problem

Hello everyone,

On my HP Pavilion dv5 1210ed the internal mic doesn’t work. I mean, I can hear static noise if I raise the slider high enough with kmix (KDE4.2). It works in windows.

I followed similar posts to get the sound going (first that didn’t work also), but that was an easy fix. Here are the required command outputs:

uname -r:

2.6.27.21-0.1-default

rpm-qa | grep alsa

alsa-oss-32bit-1.0.17-1.37
alsa-oss-1.0.17.git20080715-2.24
alsa-utils-1.0.19.git20090319-1.2
alsa-tools-1.0.19.git20090320-1.2
alsa-1.0.19.git20090304-3.1

alsa-driver-kmp-default-1.0.19.20090406_2.6.27.19_3.2-1.1
alsa-firmware-1.0.19.git20090317-1.1

cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 enable_msi=1
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel,snd-hda-intel
# 5Dex.DVex+nmP8+5:SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
# NXNs.HS4OKn_IlZ0:RV620 Audio device [Radeon HD 34xx Series]
alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel

The alsa-info.sh (please find the output at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=a47b7d0b7abe4f8225acc4d88e3cd2f5c73d0ee4)identifies the card/microphone as a STAC92xx (none of these are on HP, according to the ALSA-Configuration), I have tried some of them with no effect. Does anyone has some ideas?

You could carefully try to tune your mixer, but my experience is internal mics under Linux with alsa rarely work.

So I’m replying only to advice your post was not unnoticed, but there is nothing likely I can do to help.

You could try writing a bug report on it.

To be honest, I was hoping for a different answer. Thanks for the reply. I will keep an eye on the new alsa versions, maybe they come up with something.
