HP DL160 1U SATA RAID

I’ve installed over the past couple of weeks openSuSE 11.0 on a series of DL160s and one DL140. On the newer machines, which come with one 160GB and two larger (750GB or 1TB) SATA drives, I’ve tried using hardware RAID, setting up one 750GB RAID1 device, but 11.0 seems to have problems mounting / addressing the device. Anyone else experiencing this? I’d prefer not to have to use software RAID if I can tackle the hardware RAID issue(s). These servers have a SATA RAID controller which appears to be made by Intel.

Most Intel sata raid controller are indeed “fake-raid”.

You will need a driver from the manufacturer to make the raid visible to the
system or activate dm raid (poor performance firmware-driver-based raid) in
suse. Or going with a pure linux software raid solution (md).
