HP Deskjet 720c driver disappeared

Hi all,

I am running opensuse 11.3 but after a recent update it appears that the HP Deskjet 720c driver is no longer there.

How am I supposed to print now?

Cheers
Erik

PS. These are the involved packages:
hplip-3.10.2-1.13.x86_64
hplip-hpijs-3.10.2-1.13.x86_64

seeing as i am about to put a “hp 960” out in the trash because hp no longer makes parts – they stopped 2 years ago ,and the last driver update ( windows was in 2002)

dose the web interface except the manual config? it should be there in the lip ( the ijs is built into the lip)
http://localhost:631/

I don’t understand what you are saying about the web interface…

In any case I don’t understand why the driver is no longer there. I just downloaded the driver from somewhere and now it works again.

Don’t see the point in removing drivers for old printers just because the manfacturer stops supporting it. My printer is the best in the world and after all these years it still works.

don’t understand what you are saying about the web interface…
you configure cups from there ( yes there is a gnome/or kde/xfce/or e17
but cups is universal
are you sure it is a desk jet and not a “office jet 720”
and there is the default generic
HP deskjet foomatic
HP deskjet plus foomatic

have you gown through the hp web site
fallow the linkes and it drops you here
HP Linux Imaging and Printing

You have selected SUSE Linux 11.2 using the HP Deskjet 720c Printer.
Your printer is not supported by HPLIP.
Please click Previous to select a different operating system or printer.

see:
HP Linux Imaging and Printing

if the generic do not work try the drivers for the model # around yours

What JohnVV is saying is that you use cups and hplip to control printing to hp printers.

Open a terminal and type su and then the root password.
Now type hp-setup.
This will bring up the setup for your hp printer.

Alternately, open a web browser and type: http://localhost:631 in the address bar.
This will bring up the cupsserver configuration pages.
