HP 5440 Printer Problem

My HP5440 printer worked just fine under openSUSE 10.3, but does not work under 11.1. It also works correctly under Fedora 11. The problem appears to be the HP 5400 Series driver. Under 10.3 and Fedora 11, there is a specific driver for the HP 5440, and it works. I noticed that Fedora uses hpijs version 1.3.9.2 with hplib version 3.9.2. How do I get the older drivers, which included a separate driver for the 5440?

Almost forgot, the problem is that it prints one line of garbage per page. Wastes a lot of paper. I even have the same problem when I connect the printer to a Samba machine. I haven’t tried connecting the printer on a Fedora machine, and then using remote cups to print.

Hplip should fully manage this printer.

Latest version of HPLIP (3.9.6b) can be installed from OBS repo:

Thanks, I will check it out as soon as I get out of the hospital. I suffered a compound fracture of the left femur, when I fell off a ladder.

we are sorry to hear that; take care and get well soon

mend well…and, i reckon Bill should leave antenna work to others for
a while, huh?
