In /home/userid/.var/app/com.playonlinux.PlayOnLinux4/data/

rename PlayOnLinux by PlayOnLinux~

create the link PlayOnLinux → /home/userid/.PlayOnLinux/

to launch an app use this command :

/usr/bin/flatpak run com.playonlinux.PlayOnLinux4 --run <app> %F

Enjoy :grinning:

Or don’t because PlayOnLinux is unmaintained. Use Steam or Lutris or Heroic or Bottles or something actually getting worked on.

I tried Bottles some time ago.

I’m not convinced. It’s game-oriented.

I will try again.

Are you sure PlayonLinux is dead ? last updated Dec 28, 2024

There is a V 5 alpha last updated 2, 3, 4, 5 months ago.

It doesn’t look very active: Commits · PlayOnLinux/POL-POM-4 · GitHub
There are some changes, but not that many. You’re probably better off with Lutris.

The last ‘release’ on github is alpha 3, in 2020. It’s dead.

Bottles is as gaming oriented as PlayonLinux. They are both just Wine front ends and prefix managers, it’s just that PlayonLinux is dead.

There’s nothing about Bottles, Lutris or even Steam that makes them only for games. Proton hands things in ways that will make it the easiest way to get things, not just games, running. They are just front ends to runners.
