How upgrade openSUSE 11.0 to 11.1?

I have openSUSE 11.0 and I am thinking of upgrading to 11.1. How do I do this and what risks are there?

I have done that and will say that a clean install is much less fraught with
dangers.

If you have your /home on a different partition to / then just do a clean
install it is quicker and leaves you with the correct version of everything.

Updates can leave older libs and stuff lying around which will one day rise
and bite you in the butt, and no-one will be able to help because we will
not know what is left on the system.

When I did it is was on a reasonably clean 11.0 system on a sandbox machine
and it worked but it was not 100% somethings just did not feel right and
some of my older stuff refused to work unless I re-installed.

So in the long run it is harder work to update than to install fresh,
hopefully this will soon be a thing of the past as the devs are trying to
get updating a sort of continual thing so you can always have the latest
without a wipe and re-install.

I did upgrade from 10.3 to 11.1 without any problem.

the risks are as usual:

-you accidently wipe out your hard drive (do you have a backup?)

-you don’t like the new background (heh)

-the new eye candy takes too much computing power

-you have to reinstall all the apps you had previously installed

-stuff like that…

note: 11.2 is out in a few months, and is available now for testing…

Give a hacker a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach google and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thanks for the edifying link - I was looking here though: Index of /distribution/11.2-Milestone6/iso
(there’s no DVD ISO there).

If you are using the oS 11.2 Milestone release, is it stable ?
Any issues that I should be aware of ?

it is not for ‘use’ it is for testing…

> Any issues that I should be aware of ?

it is BETA software!! it has NOT been released for any reason other
than testing…

you should, at the very least, have a GOOD, usable copy of all your
data safe and in a place that it can’t get trashed by BETA software…

maybe folks test it on a completely different machine, or in a VM
sandbox…

and, if you run it you should be willing to post all valid bugs you
find…
