I wonder if someone could point out the right direction, The problem here is rpmgraph,
Despite having graphviz installed and being root when I execute rpmgraph, I can’t make it work. And according to the man page it seems very easy to use rpmgraph. Error messages, if any, don’t take me further forward towards a solution.
The package file(s) that I’m supposed to use as an argument to rpmgraph - where are they located in an ordinary install of 15.6? My handling error might be as simple as that.
I haven’t used rpmgraph before, and if someone more experienced can give me a hint of what should be done, it would be helpful.
You have specified “other” when asked for your openSUSE version. Then please explain in your text which one you use.
Is it Leap 15.6 as you mention somewhere? Then why didn’t you tag this is such?
I have here 15.5 and a package rpmgraph is not in the standard repos. Please, when you use non-standard software, always explain where you have it from and how you installed it.
That is very precise and technically correct description that makes it clear where the problem is.
You could start with describing what you did and what results you got.
Then why do not you show these error messages? Maybe others would have more luck interpreting them?
Nowhere (by default). The package files are not kept after they have been installed. They are on your repository mirror(s) from where they are downloaded for installation.
I have now returned to this thread, and I’m deeply sorry if I violated some rule about tagging for the version of OpenSUSE I use. It’s 15.6 that’s running in my computer.
But there’s one thing I in your answer I don’t understand, and it’s about “rpmgraph” being in the standard repos. When I installed 15.6 rpmgraph, among other tools in the rpm suite, was included without me having to interact in any way with the installation program to get it on to my hard drive.
That said, is rpmgraph a program that can visualize (with support from graphviz) dependencies for both non-installed packages and installed packages? Like a presentation you can get with “tree” of the content in a directory. Or is that a misunderstanding on my behalf?
Maybe that should be made clear first of all.
The reason I’m asking about an easy way to visualize dependencies of various packages is that I can’t make Plymouth work in a satsifying manner in one installation, and I thought it could have something to do with dependencies issues.
The only thing rpmgraph is telling me when I test it on an rpm file I’ve downloaded by hand so to speak (not with Zypper) is that the rpm file can’t be installed. And it’s not true.
