How to use mokutil in immutable distro like #Aeon correctly (e.g. for nvidia drivers after missing the bootscreen)

Exactly as written.

user@computer:/> setenforce 0
bash: setenforce: command not found

mokutil.out

Of course you do not run system administration commands as plain user. You do it as root.

3671  geteuid()                         = 1000

You do not run system administration commands as plain user.

like this?

user@computer:~> sudo setenforce 0
[sudo] Passwort für user:
user@computer:~> sudo mokutil --import /boot/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-545.29.06-18.1-default.der
input password:
input password again:
Failed to enroll new keys

What happens when you login as root instead of using sudo?

user@computer:~> su
Passwort:
computer:/home/user # mokutil --import /boot/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-545.29.06-18.1-default.der
input password:
input password again:
Failed to enroll new keys

Honestly, at this point, this looks like a Bug to file against Aeon, from my perspective.

That’s not “login as root”. That is still “login as normal user and become root”.

I am not that familiar with root - should i go with

su --login

?

Switch to the text console (assuming you are in GUI, Ctrl-Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-F2) and login as root. Or add “3” kernel parameter on boot, so you boot into text mode instead of GUI.

Show output of loginctl while in GUI, it will display the virtual terminal where GUI is active.

OK I am in on Ctrl-Alt-F1, but I can not copy/paste from there.

But from my

su --login

i get similar output except in ALT-STRG-F1 the root is active which looks like:

computer:~ # loginctl
SESSION UID USER SEAT TTY STATE IDLE SINCE
      2 1000 user seat0 tty2 active no
      4 0 root seat0 tty1 online no

2 sessions listed.

Is it possible to paste in the textmode? (Ctrl-Alt-F1) from the GUI

From text-terminal F1 i get exactly the same error message like before when trying to mokutil --import
