I converted my uncle to linux (opensuse) and set it up on his laptop. He teaches at a Medical College and needs to connect his laptop to a projector to give presentations to students. His laptop is a Compaq Presario M2000 which came with Windows XP and used to connect to the projector fine, however with opensuse the laptop gives no video output. I tried to connect a monitor via vga-out, but that too gave no display and fn+f4 didn’t work. Any help?

did you try installing the ATI drivers using the Yast repository? Often the proprietary drivers give you the option to use additional features.
