i have used two NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 cards in my system (one PCIe 16x, one PCIe 2x), using the NVIDIA driver. I wanted to change one of them with a ATI Raedeon HD6450 (PCIe 16x). I tried to just add the new card, but it didnt worked.
Could someone please tell me if att all it is possible to use a NVIDIA and a ATI card together and how to proceed that it workes fine.
At the end i would like to use 4 different monitors in my system. Unter Windows 7 the combination worked fine (without installing additional drivers) but i don’t have any idea how to solve that under SUSE.
Using:
openSUSE 12.3 x86_64
Linux 3.7.10-1.1
(newer kernel-versions are installed, but X didnt start with them. I think because i would need to install the NVIDIA-driver to every new kernel-version?)
One word impossible.
You can not use NVIDIA and AMD cards together at the same time, you need to have two NVIDIA cards for NVIDIA SLI or two AMD cards for AMD crossfireX.
It might be pretty tricky though, and likely a ROYAL pain to maintain.
With the cost of GPUs being very cheap these days, it might be worth considering just matching vendors if you can afford the ~$30 - $50 US to replace one of them.
