The 340meg file (opensuse 11.1 downloaded from local mirror site) must be a compresed file of the full 4.3 gig iso file.Indeed in windows the file reads as a rar file and uncompressing the file does produce 4.3. gig file but coping the contents does not produce a bootable dvd disk. I how do I go about burning the compressed file to dvd and make it bootable .
thanks in advance
p.s. I am uber noob 2 weeks of running with linux suse 10.2 and no other linux experience but pretty impressed with what I got “for free (nogal)”
I’m very skeptical of that. No compression is that good 4.3GB -> 340MB. Besides the contents of the DVD are already compressed so there is very little entropy for the rar to squeeze out.
Your download quit prematurely.
Use a download manager. In Linux there’s Downloader for X (D4X) and Windows users have Orbit or Free Download Manager.
