How To Uninstall nVidia Proprietary Driver And Install Open Source Nouveau Driver?

Hi,

I am running current openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE 64Bit.
A recent update to the proprietary nVidia display driver v460.32.03 is causing crashes on my OS.
I would like to try the open source Nouveau driver, but don’t know how to set that up.

The current proprietary nVidia display driver is installed and Nouveau display driver is black listed.
How can I uninstall the proprietary nVidia display driver and stop black listing of Nouveau display driver?

My nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is fully supported by the Nouveau display driver so it should work well.
Let me know, this is a mission-critical development desktop which has not worked properly for a few days.
Thanks!

Jesse

How did you install it? via repo or run file??

Hi,

I did “The Easy Way” - repo

Jesse

Then uninstall via the repo should take you back to nouveau

Note best done from a terminal. ie boot to run level 3 and run zypper or yast from the command line.

The proprietary driver runs smoothly here with the same GPU model as yours. TW/Xorg/Plasma. NVIDIA/Plasma/Wayland is known to not work well though.
Nouveau should work as well, I’ve run on issues with hibernation and dual-monitors.
