It works for me. You will have to give more details.

in terminal/konsole use command xev and check whether rolling produces any output

…(sorry for irony)

Hi,

excellent tool , i dont know it, output is some like :

MotionNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x3e00001,
     root 0x16b, subw 0x3e00002, time 1564367, (39,67), root : (1299,90),
    state 0x10, is_hint 0, same_screen YES

left key is 1 right 3, when i roll and press roll, nothing happens :(, what it means ? and what i should do next ?

Thx for replies.

I think it means either:

  1. your mouse is broken;
  2. your mouse is non-standard and requires a special driver.

-=WELCOME=- new poster to openSUSE and our forum!

you don’t say if you are a newbie to Linux (with experience with
(an)other operating system(s)), or an openSUSE newbie (with
experience in other Linux systems) or a computer newbie (with no
experience with other operating systems) so i’ll assume you are a
openSUSE newbie–and ask you to forgive me for making that assumption
because i was unable to see your well cloaked supercomputerific powers:

+1 to either/both of those…

so, darko55 tell us more about your mouse (brand, model, age, etc),
how it is connected (usb, ps2, through switch/adapter, etc)

tell us if it works connected to a different computer? with a
different operating system? does a different wheel mouse connected to
the 12.3 box work ok?

and, tell us if it ever worked on this machine? with 12.3? with some
other Linux (which? what version?) on this machine? if it worked with
some other Linux, tell us how you got the box from it to 12.3 (fresh
format install, or upgrade over the old Linux? did you keep configs,
etc?)

and, please show us the terminal output and input, as well as the
beginning prompt and exit prompt, from:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-mouse.conf
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

copy/paste the in/output back to this thread using the instructions
here: http://goo.gl/i3wnr

NOTE: one of those files may not exist, so may have no output–if
they both exist we need to see both…

by the way, your answer to Carlos’ request for MORE info was funny,
but not productive. think: his mouse works, my mouse work, hundreds
of thousands of mice work…so, what is different about yours??

we can NOT guess why your wheel does not work–but, answer my
questions and then we have a chance to help you…

or, continue with no details, and you will continue to have a mouse
with a wheel which is not working.

Which was the cause of my ironic remark…

Another guess: he is using a keyboard/mouse switch. Just a wild guess.

Hi, thanks for replies,

i’m newbie to linux.

mouse is connected by PS2, Genius,

Mouse runs almost perfectly at the same machine under win 7 and win Vista, why almost, because it is very very rare, it can stack during playing with game, computer sound long signal from buzz, character don’t response, walking or doing circle, after about 30 sec situation back to normal, it occurs from beginning when I buy it.

I placed the info above, for someone who had similar problem with this mouse , maybe it’s problematic and i will give up to find solution, soon i will place every information you asked.

I’ve looked at your link.

It does look as if this mouse requires a special driver. A driver is listed for Window and for Macs. I do not see a driver listed for linux. It is probably using a proprietary interface, and there might not yet be an open source driver.

At least that seems the most likely explanation of your problems.

Very old thread with same issue how can I get my genius mouse to roll?

One more very old thread suggests that you try IMwheel http://forums.devshed.com/showpost.php?p=127756&postcount=4
