Hello everyone,
I’m a newbie, and just recently installed SUSE onto my computer because I’m sick of Windows crashing frequently.
Now I’m trying to setup my hardware, seems like everything is fine except for my graphics card.
I have an NVIDIA Quadro FX 540, and I’d downloaded the suitable driver from their site.
However, upon installation, I received some kind of error that mentioned it can’t find my kernel.h or something like that.
Someone said I would need the kernel source to proceed.
What is the best way for me to set this up?
Here is my system info when uname -a is ran:
Linux namid 2.6.27.7-9-default #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 x86_64 x86_64x86_64 GNU/Linux
Thank you very much everyone in advance and sorry for the newbie question!

Can I point you here
openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users - openSUSE Forums
If you install the Base Development pattern in Software Management, pattern view.
thank you very much Administrator,
So, I’ve followed the link and now just installed the kernel-source via yast.
but at this point, before I proceed, here is the caution that the link is suggestion, before I go any further:
Note: It is wise to run an update after installing the kernel-source, to make sure that the kernel-source version is matching with the default kernel. If not, the NVIDIA script gives an error that it can not find the kernel headers.
Now, here is the result of my uname -a:
Linux namid 2.6.27.7-9-default #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 x86_64 x86_64x86_64 GNU/Linux
But this is the installed kernel source:
kernel-source - The Linux Kernel Sources
Version: 2.6.27.45-0.1.1 Installed:
So, I guess running an update is a must in this scenario.
But how do I run that? There’s an update action in YAST, which I’m thinking the link is referring me to, but it seems to not do anything, and when I hit F10 in yast, it tries to install the whole kernel-source again, all over.
So, if you can please advise me on this, before I move on to the next step to install the NVIDIA drivers. I guess the kernel source and the default system kernel must match?
thanks again!

thank you administrator!
I’ve finished the update, and now I will proceed with the nvidia installation.
thank you once again.

No worries mate. Check back if you need help.
alright, so I’d successfully setup the nvidia driver, all went smooth, and set up my sax2.
All good.
I want to say, thank you very much for time and consideration, the support from openSuse forum is top notch and I look forward to be using SuSE linux for a long long time!
thanks again.
