how to set Winbox up to discover devices on the network

Hi There,

I’m running Winbox(Mikrotik executable program) in OpenSuse 13.1 and wanting to know how can I make this executable program to discover other MTdevices on the network. At the moment, It connects to devices fine, but it isn’t discovering as it supposed to.

Thanks,

How are you making winbox.exe run in Linux?

Welcome quicks182. I am familiar with using Winbox via wine. Mikrotik devices use the proprietary MAC-telnet protocol to communicate. IIRC, port 20561 is used for this. (Or you will need to disable the openSUSE firewall to allow discovery.)

BTW, you may be interested to know that there is a MAC-telnet CLI app available for Linux

Oh that’s great! Thanks Deano for the helpful information.

Glad to be of help!

Hello,
I had a hard time trying to open these ports for winbox (and NeighborViewer, as well).

I beg the experts, please correct me if I’m wrong.

This is a very old thread where not many people will look at.

When you want the maximum of exposure to your problem/question, it is best to start a new thread with a good title (I doubt the existing titles covers your explanation).

I also assume you are not running on openSUSE 13.1, but that is what this thread is about.

Thank you for the suggestion!
I’ll take the advise for the next time Mr. Henc.
Actually it is tested so far on 32-bit 13.2, leap 42.1 and 42.2.

Merry christmas!
