How to set up load-balancing with suse?

Haha, then it was really just a misunderstanding as I said, I’m sorry ^^ I think I understand now what you mean.

Mh actually as you mention it… I’m not sure HOW available the result should be at the end. But there’s something I know. At the moment only one server is used for the whole application, database, everything.
As I’m now already at a five-server-setup (2 webserver, 2 db-server, 1 management-server) it should already be a huge advancement, I think. So such “peanuts” like 99,99% or 99,999% are not (just yet) of matter.

But what I’m wondering at this point. Is it really neccessary to read into the whole linux-ha you mentioned before? Or is there maybe already a small hint to solve the existing question?
While searching for answers I stumbled over one thing. I’m not sure if it’s correct but I read that the proxy has an own IP. I already assumed that, but I wasn’t sure.
But I’m still wondering if there’s a way of one IP for both…

…mh…now as I think of it…that is actually a ha-cluster, isn’t it? Oh jesus, why has it always to be that complicated…

Could it maybe more easy to stop here and try rather LVS? Because with the proxy I would have to try to set up this properly and **additionally **install the cluster onto the proxy. And all only because I want a load balancing.

LVS sounds like it’s all in one. The proxy seems only to be easier if there’s only one of it, isn’t it?

Think of it as adventure, not work.

Hm… after a second look at the picture in this how-to:
LVS-mini-HOWTO
Could it be possible that I would have the same problem with the LVS as with the proxy? That I would need another cluster onto everything because of the needed virtual IP and failover?

Well, THAT is not the problem ^^ if I had unlimited time I would read and try everything I can get rotfl! just for my own interest xD

But I only have about 5,5 weeks left and the cluster is not the only thing what has to be done in this time. That’s why I’m trying to filter or to get tipps what the most effecient way could be.
Because of the fact that I’m anything but an expert my speed with this whole thing is… horrible slow. For someone else the same time would sound long maybe. But for me it’s rather short.
If I would try every possible solution I would never get this done in time :\

Hm, sorry for double-posting but the edit-button is gone or am I blind? XD ah, maybe there’s a time-limit.

I found something that looks like what I’m searching for:
Ultra Monkey: Topologies: Streamline High Availability and Load Balancing

But… same problem as at the beginning. No description for suse :frowning:
It can’t be possible that there’s no tutorial anywhere for suse sigh

Oh my… I have to cancel this now.

I just talked to my boss a few minutes ago. It is now planned to solve this whole thing completely with windows. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know.
I already “missed” reading stuff like “omg why are you using windows! use linux” or “linux > windoze and mickysoft”. :X

Although I honestly want to thank everybody who tried to help me here. Even if it’s now useless for this project, it wasn’t totally useless for myself
So don’t think that you wasted your time ^^ I’m sure that I will need this again… xD

no real/final solution ever involves Windows.

palladium

That is juuuuust what I was talking about. :sarcastic:
It is so hard to get any help concerning windows… it’s enough just to mention the word to get stoned to death for it. This is more frustrating than any problem with the OS itself could be… >:(

MySQL on windows ??? Why ???

Makes no sense at all, yes its supported but its not really ever done. Sounds like your boss does not care about performance, stability or security.

If you need help with the MySQL proxy / HA solution I can help you.I will help you just drop me an email…
This forum is not the place to post MySQL designs. LVS is not needed for what you want to do if you use MySQL proxy.

cheers

Gnah… please stop it.
When I said I missed such stuff, then because I meant it ironical.
It’s not my decision, it’s not even the decision of my boss. But actually I don’t have to justify myself here :sarcastic:
It is how it is and I have to get along with it.

However, thanks for your offer. Maybe I’ll come back to it if I have to work with linux again.
