When you are adding applications to the “Desktop”, it is going into the ~/Desktop folder. If you have specified “Folder View” in the “Desktop Settings” for both the desktops, then you get the same content. Try changing one to something else.
I went to look into Folder view, as you said. My problem was, that when added the folder view to desktop #1, I insisted to choose in the Location section “Show Desktop Folder”, instead using “Home”.
I gather you guys have been talking about icons appearing on specific desktops. Is it possible to force an app to actually open on a specific desktop, wherever it is launched from?
You might have misunderstood my question, apologies for not putting this more clearly:
I do have Activities, one for each desktop. But how do I force, say, OpenOffice (or Firefox or whatever) to launch from Activity/Desktop 3, even if clicked on from Activity/Desktop 1? It’s probably impossible, or so obvious that I’m unlikely to find it
Ah, Devil’s Pie - I remember that from my Gnome days, thought it only worked with Metacity/Gnome. Thanks for the tip, a quick google suggests that it might play with KDE4.
