How to set up a web camera?

I have a phone Fly Q110 which can be used in the web camera mode. Under Windows all works well out of the box, but under Linux no program can use it, neither Skype, nor Cheese does.

I have the following hardware info:

49: USB 00.0: 0000 Unclassified device
  [Created at usb.122]
  Unique ID: KRJj.iNrSSEMmoS5
  Parent ID: uIhY.MxUuepIFPaE
  SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.0
  SysFS BusID: 3-1:1.0
  Hardware Class: unknown
  Model: "Alpha Imaging Unclassified device"
  Hotplug: USB
Vendor: usb 0x114d "Alpha Imaging Technology Corp."
  Device: usb 0x8000
  Revision: "1.00"
  Speed: 12 Mbps
  Module Alias: "usb:v114Dp8000d0100dc00dsc00dp00icFFiscFFipFF"
  Driver Info #0:
    Driver Status: hdj_mod is active
    Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe hdj_mod"
  Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown
  Attached to: #42 (Hub)

Please tell me how can I make it work under Linux because buyng Windows will be more expensive than the phone itself.

The initial exploratory approach I would try is to plug in your phone, and note the output via

dmesg |tail

You’ll need to see if the device is detected by the kernel as a video capture device (or not).

Possibly, not. I have no /dev/video

It might be worth contacting the uvcvideo developer site (BeriOS) for support here:

BerliOS Developer: Project Summary - Linux UVC

I’ve seen other USB video device classes (UVC devices) including phone cameras that are now supported via the uvcvideo driver.

Dear Ansus,

I realy wonder why you choose the Dutch subforum to post this in English. The Dutch part of the openSUSE forums is espcialy created for those who want to ue the Dutch language when they have problems, questions or other thing they want to share with their fellow Dutch speeking openSUSE users. That is where all the langauge parts of the Forums (French, Germen, Spanish, Greek, etc.) are for.

I also wonder why deano_ferrari follows what is posted in the DUTCH part of the forumes when he probably can not understand Dutch and in any case did not anser in Dutch to Ansus question. In any case postting in the wrong language is likely to diminish your change that knowing people read your thread.

I guess that the users of the Dutch forums will not be to happy with their foruun cluttered with all sorts of other language threads.

Please explain why you posted here, and when this is some mishap on your site, if you want to this thread to be moved to the English Hardware subforum.

Regards,

I must admit, I tend not to concern myself with noticing the sub-forum being posted in. I simply see the threads listed chronologically via ‘Todays Posts’ and respond, but I guess this can be moved on Ansus’s behalf without issue.
