i have a suse 11.3 machine and i cannot set it to be a NFS server
that is i cannot mount a directory of this machine on another one running as well a 11.3
while i can mount without problem a directory from 10.0
i do not know where to start as the NFS server option seems to have vanished from YAST

It won’t appear in YaST if you haven’t installed the software!
Go to YaST’s software maintenance and install the NFS server package.
(sorry, I don’t remember it’s exact name, but just browse for it, and
there may be a separate package for the yast feature)
but i have just checked all the avalaible packages containing the words “nfs” or “server” in their names or descriptions are installed!
what can it be then?

It would help if you explicitly stated which packages you mean!
Otherwise how does anybody know you have the same list as them? We don’t
all have crystal balls.
I don’t have 11.3 here but I have 11.2 and the package there is called
yast2-nfs-server
i agree, and apologize, but i did not know what to look for,
as it seems that in 15 years of SuSE i had the right packages for NFS servers installed by default
